How to add links to Instagram Stories

For the past few years, verified accounts on Instagram have had the ability to add links to Instagram Stories, accessible with a simple swipe. It’s a handy feature not only for influencers but businesses, creatives and just about anyone that wants to share online content via Stories without having to direct people to the link in their Instagram bio, which made the exclusivity frustrating to many.

However, that’s all changed with the introduction of Link Stickers on Instagram Stories.

As part of an ongoing swathe of updates and features hitting the platform, Instagram has rolled out the Link Sticker feature to users around the world.

Rather than swiping up, as with the old system, links within Instagram Stories will appear as an on-screen sticker that viewers can tap to access – likely in a bid to be more transparent about what you’re clicking on.

How to add a link to Instagram Stories

So, how do you add a link to an Instagram Story? Like most other interactive features within Instagram’s Stories feature, it’s accessible via a sticker. Follow these steps if you’re unsure:

  1. Make sure you’re running the latest version of the Instagram app for iOS or Android.
  2. Swipe right from the main Instagram feed to create/upload your Instagram Story.
  3. Tap the Sticker tool from the navigation bar.
  4. Tap the Link sticker.
  5. Add the website you’d like to link to in the URL field, and tap ‘Customise Sticker Text’ to give the link a name.
  6. Tap Done to add the sticker to your story.
  7. Move the sticker to the appropriate area on your Story.
  8. Tap either ‘Your Story’ or ‘Close Friends’ to publish your new Story.

That’s it! Your link will now be embedded within your Instagram Story, ready for people to tap.

It’s also worth noting that, as with other Instagram Stickers, you can tap the sticker while in the edit phase to browse the various colour variations if required. Hey, we’ve got to make sure it fits the aesthetic of the poster right?

It’s not the only feature previously exclusive to Influencers that Instagram has recently opened up to all users either; the company has also rolled out access to Collabs, allowing multiple users to share the same post, likes and comment threads. We cover how to post a Collab on Instagram separately for those curious.
