What is Ex-Pharm (ExPharm)?
ExPharm is a Computer Assisted Learning (CAL) software containing various programs which simulate animal experiments in Pharmacology. These programs can be used to demonstrate effect of drugs on different animals systems.
The package is user friendly, highly interactive and full of animated sequences which make simulation appear realistic. The current version of Experimental Pharmacology (Ex-Pharm) Series Software consists of following computer simulated experiments.
ExPharm Software
ExPharm software is aimed at helping the UGs understand, remember and recall drug actions. The package contains four programs:
Rabbit – Effects drugs on the rabbit eye
Heart – Effects of drugs on the frog heart
Ileum – Bioassay of histamine on the guinea-pig ileum
Oesophagus – Effects of drugs on the frog oesophagus
Dog – Effects of drugs on dog BP and heart rate.
The above programs can simulate drug actions. The user can conduct experiments and collect data. Each program can be run in two modes
(a) Tutorial mode
(b) Examination mode
Please note : Examination mode is disabled in ver T2.00
Drugs can be chosen (from a list drugs available) and administered. The effect is displayed in animated sequences for realistic simulation. All programs are menu driven and user friendly. The entire package is mouse operable and the need to use key board is minimal.
In tutorial mode, drugs administered are known whereas unknown drugs are given in examination mode. The student has to identify the unknown drug(s). Examination mode which is available only in ver E1.00 can be used for conducting examinations. Currently E versions are available for Dog and Heart only.

This software is NOT a DEMO package. It has fully functional and usable modules.
ExPharm Software for Windows 11, 8, 7
ExPharm ver T2.00 for Windows 2.0 could be downloaded from the developer’s website when we last checked. We are unable to confirm whether this program may be downloaded for free. Original creator of this open-source program was JIPMER.
The developer’s website is secure, according to the findings of the Google Safe Browsing assessment. Despite this, we advise using any free antivirus program on the downloaded files. The software belongs to Home & Hobby tools. The installation for this software most frequently has the filename ExPharm.exe. The 2.0 version of the application is the most often used.
Operating System
The software runs with Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP & Vista. It was NOT tested under Windows NT. It does NOT work under Windows 3.x. Nor is it available for other platforms (Mac, Unix).
You can download and use version T2.00 and use it without any restrictions. The major differences between T1.00 and T2.00 are, the later includes Dog and help files are PDF files which require a PDF reader on your PC.
Important for ExPharm Pro
Please note that Expharm Pro (the latest version of ExPharm) is launched on 19th Dec 2011 by Elsevier India. After the launch, the new version will be available for testing. Since the new version will be available shortly, the distribution of older versions of ExPharm, EPDog, EPOeso and EPHeart are discontinued with effect from 17 Dec 2011.
